Windswept Farm: horse camps for every ability
Michael Mauss built Windswept over 30 years ago. He had worked on the property when it was a dairy farm. After the dairy farm burnt down, he purchased the property and built Windswept. About 13 years later, Tina came along, and the pair has continued their coupled passion for horses to the present time. The farm is a full boarding and leasing facility with an indoor and outdoor arena and offers lessons on a regular basis and camps in the summer.
Horse camp in the summer is nothing new, and is nothing new for Tina and Michael. Six sessions take place from June through August. Campers age seven through about 15 years-old and with all levels of ability are welcome.
Tina, Michael, and other counselors and instructors teach everything from the basics of learning to groom and understand horses, to learning different disciplines of riding and the more advanced equestrian skills and techniques, such as wrapping a horse's legs.
Tina explained that some campers come for one week, and others come for all the summer sessions. Some of the children board their horses at Windswept, and others end up purchasing a horse. Many children come back after college to continue riding at Windswept. Tina and Michael also have high school students come as counselors.
Tina said the camp sessions are fun, and that there is so much for campers to learn and do. She welcomes any ability and will teach any child willing to learn.
Windswept has 30 horses. Their experience and family-friendly atmosphere make the horse camp experience one to remember.
