People of Shelburne - Debby Jarecki

Debby Jarecki
Many of you probably know Debby Jarecki from her time as the owner of Scribbles in downtown Burlington. The store closed last year and now Debby has moved on to begin a new chapter in her life. Read more below.
Family: Debby is married to Joe, and they have three children: Jonathon, who lives in Burlington, and twin daughters, Jane and Jennifer. Jane recently married and lives in Essex Junction, and Jennifer lives in Burlington.
Education and career: Debby was born in San Francisco and grew up in Piedmont, Calif., in the East Bay. She received her bachelor's degree in history at the University of California Berkeley. She then went on to receive a master's degree in speech pathology and audiology at the California State University San Francisco. Upon receiving her master's degree, Debby worked as a speech pathologist for four years, and then had her three children. In 1993, it was time for a change. Her husband, Joe, and her family were from the east coast, and because she loved the east coast so much too, it simply made sense to move here. She and her family first moved to North Hero, Vt., and then settled in Shelburne where they have lived for about 10 and a half years. Upon moving to Vermont, Debby opened Scribbles, a gift and stationary store in downtown Burlington. The store was first located in the current location of Borders on Church Street. The store then moved into the Burlington Square Mall, and then moved to their final location on Church Street, in the location where Stella is now housed. Debby said that although she loved the store, the time had come for a new chapter in her life. Scribbles closed its doors in September of 2009 and in January of this year Debby began working for the doctors who created Proactive. She was the first consultant for its new skin care line, Rodans + Fields. Debby is currently in the process of building her executive team and selling the product to individuals.
Debby is an active volunteer. She has co-chaired Evening Song, a gala event for the Cancer Patient Support Program and each year she rows in Burlington's cancer programs' benefit Dragonboat race.
