A sure sign of Spring...
The last Shelburne Winter Farmers Market could have a definite summer feel to it. If the weather is as good on Saturday as the current forecasts predict, the market will be on the Parade Ground - just like the summer markets. If the weather isn't good it will be in the Town Center gym.
The last Winter Farmers Market is scheduled for Saturday, April 3 - and the date for the first weekly Summer Farmers Market is set for May 29, Memorial Day Weekend.
Tod Whitaker, president of the Shelburne Business & Professional Association and manager of the market, expressed appreciation to the vendors who have filled the Town Center gym with good food, enticing smells and interesting products every month since the market began on Oct. 31. "We know it is difficult for farmers to plan their production so they can have a bountiful offering through the winter months, but we have been pleased that the market combined produce, prepared foods, delicious baked goods, maple products, and wine, as well as the handcrafts that add sparkle to the displays," he said.
The Saturday Winter Market will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It's a great chance to add some special, locally produced, baked, or pickled food to your Easter dinner menu - and a time to listen to nice music and visit with your friends and neighbors.
Support your business association
Shelburne Business and Professional Association is growing! The January mailing to all the businesses in Town, encouraging them to join the SBPA, has had a good response. Renewing members and new members are sending in their affordable $50 membership fee to support the work of the organization (including organizing the Farmers Market that brings business to everyone as market shoppers explore other Shelburne Village and Route 7 stores and services). SBPA also has a Web site (www.sbpavt.org) that provides a link for member businesses to the world. If you haven't signed up, go to that website, or call SBPA President Tod Whitaker at 985-2472 for information.
