Summer Expressions program for young children
If you have ever wanted your child to get to experience a preschool program before actually enrolling them as a student, here is that chance.
The Children’s School, an NAEYC accredited cooperative preschool on Patchen Road in South Burlington, has a Summer Expressions camp program open to the public and run by several of its experienced teachers. Building on the same "play-based" learning philosophy that guides the school year curriculum, each week has a theme to set the stage for focused activities appropriate to the preschool-aged child.
Similar to the school year, there will be different daily learning stations set-up to allow children time to learn and explore on their own. There will also be group time where children learn to listen and share with their teachers and friends. The Children’s School, now in its 40th year, has both a wonderful indoor space as well as a large and safe outdoor playground. Both areas set the stage for water play, plant and insect identification, and other imaginative play.
Camp sessions are one week each and run from 8:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. Children must be 3-5 years old and toilet trained. This year’s session dates and themes are as follows: July 19-23 – All about Boats; July 26-30 – Things that Hop, Crawl, and Fly; August 2-6 – World of Water; and August 9-13 – Bubbles and Beyond.
