Free tree give-away at Saturday's Farmers Market
Shelburne News tradition continues
by Mary Houle
This Saturday at the first Shelburne Farmer’s Market of the season, Wind Ridge Publishing/Shelburne News will again be "greening up" the Town. The feature tree for this year’s Plant-a-Tree giveaway will be a silver maple. Just stop by our booth at the Farmers Market this Saturday for your free silver maple sapling.
The silver maple is a fast growing deciduous tree reaching 60 feet in height. Also referred to as the "water maple," it is most happy growing along waterways and stream banks as well as in wetlands. Make it happiest by planting it in full sun. Bring a plastic bag and take a sapling home with you.
Shelburne News’ third annual Great Pumpkin contest will be in October, but the seeds must be planted soon! Plan to pick up a pinch of seeds this Saturday to get your Great Pumpkin started for the fall contest. This makes a great family or team event for the growing season. Plant the seed, tend the plant, watch the pumpkin develop and pick the best one. Enter it in the contest at the last farmer’s market of the season for your chance to win! Each year more families enter and tell their growing story with words and pictures. Please join the fun. Tell us your story and take some pictures. In October there will be a special page on www.shelburnenews.com to submit your pumpkin story and pictures. Hope to see you this Saturday!
