Richard Fox was born and raised in Charlotte. After he spent some time away from home in a couple of cities, he returned to his roots and to where he felt he belonged. He has lived in Shelburne for the past five years and is very active in his career and in the community. Here are the details.

Family: Richard's parents still reside in Charlotte, where he was born and raised. He has one sister, who also lives in Charlotte.

Education: Richard attended the Charlotte Central School and CVU before heading off to college. He triple majored at Rutgers in history, English, and political science. "I figured I might as well get the most out of the credit hours." The three degrees took four years to complete, with each semester maxed out at the most number of credits Richard could take. Upon graduating from Rutgers, Richard moved to Washington, D.C. and went to law school for three years at George Washington University.

Career: Richard's first full time job with his law degree was with a small government contracting business that worked with government, federal defense, service, and construction contracts. After two years with this firm, he began working for a company that specialized in public contracts and construction law. All of the work here was associated with federal law and government agencies. In 2002, Richard moved to Boston and worked in a "boutique firm" (small and specialized) that focused on his area of expertise, construction law. Richard said he enjoyed his time in Boston and that out of all cities he had been to he liked Boston the best. In 2004, Richard decided to move back to Vermont, and relocated in Shelburne in 2005. After working at another small firm for two years, and then working for himself for another two, Richard accepted a position at Unsworth and Barra PLC where he works as an attorney with civil and construction contracts as well as residential and commercial real estate.

Through a business networking contact, Richard has offered two presentations at the Champlain Housing Trust for first-time homebuyers explaining how to select an attorney, what to expect of the attorney, and what the attorney expects of the client. Richard's workshop is part of a full day of the Champlain Housing Trust's workshops for first-time homebuyers.

Community involvement: Richard is an extremely involved Shelburne citizen. He has been a member of Shelburne Rescue for the past four years. He is the Cub Master for Pack 607 in Shelburne. Additionally, he is a pro-bono attorney for the Vermont Bar Association Military Family Law Project representing guardsmen and women in issues of custody, guardianship, etc. Richard is also on the board of directors for the Miss Vermont scholarship program.

Favorite food: Rare meat - in particular steak and pork

Hobbies: Wood working and home repair, collecting Red Sox memorabilia, hiking, and reading

Favorite movie: "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"

First concert: A 1984 St. Patrick's Day concert featuring the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem

Music: Anything except country and rap

Bucket list: Richard would like to see the North Rim (lesser-viewed portion) of the Grand Canyon in the spring when the wildflowers are in full bloom, own a 34-foot Chris Craft Commander (boat), and have a summer with nothing to do.
