Grow an extra row for your neighbor
Calling all gardeners...As you plant your vegetable gardens this spring be thinking ahead a bit and plant an extra row of veggies. This is the second year that the Shelburne Community School (SCS) FEED Committee is organizing their "grow an extra row" initiative to provide fresh vegetables for families in our community.
The idea generated last year when Randy Sweeney and Vicky Wideman wanted to do something with the school's vegetables when school was not in session. They decided to donate those veggies to community members and invited others to do the same.
Good vegetables to plant and donate include carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, lettuce, potatoes, green beans, peas, squash, and zucchini.
There will be three drop-off and pick-up days at SCS throughout the summer: July 13, Aug. 3, and Aug. 24. Drop-off will be from 1:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m. Pick-up will be from 3:30 p.m. -5 p.m.
If you are interested in donating vegetables, please contact Randy Sweeney at sweeneyrs@gmail.com or 985-8190. If you are interested in receiving vegetables or know of someone who might be interested in receiving vegetables, please contact Vicky Wideman at vwideman@cssu.org or 425-7706.
