SCS math teacher Cynthia Shedd announces retirement
Cynthia Shedd began her teaching career 30 years ago and has spent the last 18 of those years at Shelburne Community School (SCS). She will retire at the end of this school year and plans to move to Florida to be closer to family members.
"I started at Shelburne, working with Lisa Phelps and Dick Carlson on the Opportunity Team," Shedd recalled. As a student, Shedd attended Charlotte Central School and CVU, and then went on to receive her B.S. degree in elementary education from UVM. "I taught in Ferrisburgh before Shelburne and now I'm realizing that my oldest students would be 42!" Her retirement coincides with the graduation of her 14-year-old son, Clarke, from SCS this month.
Shedd's most rewarding experiences in her career are the personal relationships she has made with her students and the opportunity she has had to influence some of the choices they have made, or will make, in the future. "These connections [with students] are forever, and I hold them close to my heart."
