Jeff Evans
Jeffrey (Jeff) Evans was recently appointed the varsity girls' basketball head coach at CVU. Jeff is a Shelburne resident and has a long history of coaching sports and teaching students. Here is some background about his life.
Family: Jeff and his wife, Michelle, have been married for 18 years. They have three children: Carlee, 17, is a junior at CVU; Miranda, 16, is a sophomore at CVU; Jackson, 11, is in fifth grade at the Shelburne Community School. Jeff has always been active in his children's lives, not only as a father, but also as a coach throughout the years.
Education and career: Jeff grew up in Northfield, Vt. After graduating from high school, he spent one year at UVM, one year at Keene State University in New Hampshire, and then went on the road as a professional umpire for the minor leagues. He did this for 10 years. Some of his favorite spots were Buffalo, Denver, and Florida. As a professional umpire, one rotates positions on the field with the crew. After 10 years of travel, he decided to settle in the Burlington area, and moved to Shelburne with his wife in 1993. Upon his return to Vermont, he began to substitute teach at CVU and coached its varsity boys' basketball team, all while finishing his degree at night in the adult degree program in Norwich. After two years, he completed his degree and became a full-time English teacher at CVU. Throughout all of this time, Jeff was also coaching junior varsity boys' soccer and varsity golf at CVU. He will start as the varsity girls' basketball head coach for the 2010-2011 season. Jeff's other coaching positions in the community include Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) and mini metro basketball.
