Kathi Roesler has lived in Shelburne for several years. She is a dedicated nurse at Fletcher Allen, volunteers for the Cancer Patient Support Program, and has done medical work in Haiti. Here are some other details about Kathi's life, family, and more.

Family: Kathi and her husband, Bob, will soon be celebrating their 30th anniversary. Collectively, the couple has five children. The oldest, Carolyn, lives in Hinesburg and has two children; Rob has three children and lives in Massachusetts; Peter lives in Vergennes and has one child; Nick lives in New York City; Katie lives in Shelburne and works at Flatbread Factory and the Taproom.

Kathi also has two sisters and one brother who all live out of state, but the siblings do manage to get together often. Kathi's mother currently resides in Middlebury.

Education and career: Kathi grew up in the Boston area and moved to Vermont her freshman year in high school. She attended Essex Junction High School but graduated from Spaulding High School in Barre. Kathi attended Dennison University in Ohio and received her undergraduate degree in fine arts. She then attended the UVM Nursing School. In 1977 Kathi began working for Medical Center Hospital of Vermont, now known as Fletcher Allen Health Care (FAHC). She has worked at the hospital on and off since that time and currently works per diem in the operating room, which she loves.

For nine years, Kathi co-owned The Courtyard Collection, located in downtown Burlington. The store imported and sold Italian ceramics. Kathi said she truly enjoyed the work, especially the travel.

Additionally,Kathi paints house portraits on plates for realtors to give as gifts to new home owners. She also works out regularly with three other women. Recently Kathi ran the 5.6 mile beltline leg of the marathon for her relay team.

Volunteer work: Kathi traveled to Haiti in 2009, three weeks before the earthquake hit, and she worked with a team in an operating room, which she said could barely be called one. She hopes to return in November with the same group. She commented that the people in Haiti are unbelievably appreciative and patient. Locally, Kathi volunteers for the Cancer Patient Support Program (CPSP) that provides supportive and rehabilitative services to cancer patients and their families in the Burlington area. Kathi served as a board member for three years, and works on CPSP's major fundraising event called Evening Song, a black tie affair held annually in September.
