Results of the annual wine competition at the Eastern States Exposition, also known as The Big E, were announced this week. Shelburne Vineyard, competing against wineries in the six New England states and New York State, received one of the top awards. The local winery was named premier exhibitor and received honors for every wine it submitted to the competition. Notably, Shelburne Vineyard's 2009 Chardonnay won a double gold medal and the title of best state wine.

Additionally, Shelburne Vineyard won a gold medal for its flagship wine, Cayuga White, and for its Marquette, a red wine crafted from the new cold-hardy grapes grown at its Route 7 vineyard. Its Cote de Champlain, Pinot Gris, and Lakeview White wines each netted a silver medal and its Whimsey Meadow Rosé brought home a bronze medal.
