Shelburne musicians McKinley James (cello), Christopher Krag (fiddle), and Dana Hartshorn (piano) will perform with their band The Irregulars at the Champlain Valley Folk Festival on Saturday.

The Irregulars, a Shelburne based fiddle band of fun-loving young musicians ages 12-15 will perform at the Champlain Valley Folk Festival Saturday, July 31. The band's name is derived from the Baker Street Irregulars, a group of street urchins found in the original Sherlock Holmes stories who did Holmes' "dirty work," helped to crack the cases, and then would take out their fiddles and play.

Shelburne's own Irregulars play traditional tunes from Ireland, Cape Breton, Appalachia, Quebec, New England, and Scotland. The band features Shelburne residents McKinley James on cello fiddle, Christopher Krag on the traditional fiddle, and Dana Hartshorn on piano. The other members of the band are Oliver Scanlon, Eileen O'Grady, Laura Harris, and Amanda DeBellis.
The Irregulars placed third at the 2010 young tradition weekend in Burlington. Additionally, they were featured at the Vermont history expo as part of traditional music and dance. The Young Tradition program organizes events throughout New England and Quebec. For more information, visit www.youngtraditionvermont.org.
