Shelburne residents nominated for United Way Hometown volunteer awards
Three Shelburne residents have been nominated for the United Way of Chittenden County's "Hometown Hero" volunteer awards, honoring community volunteers for the positive impact they have on the quality of life in Chittenden County. The local nominees are Gail Anderson, for her service to the Committee on Temporary Shelter (COTS), Clo Brayfield for her efforts at the Humane Society of Chittenden County and Nancy Zahniser, who volunteers at the King Street Youth Center.
The winners will be announced on Sept. 10 at the Live United Breakfast, sponsored by Citizen's Bank, to be held at the Sheraton Burlington Hotel & Conference Center. The nominations honor a total of 135 individuals and six businesses, with more than 256 combined years of service and more than 57,360 combined hours of service annually in Chittenden County.
A winner from each of five categories will be selected by a panel of volunteer judges from the community. The agency served by each winner will receive a donation of $1,000 made possible by grants from Citizen's Bank and the Argosy Foundation on behalf of John Abele.
Each nominee will receive a certificate, a "Little Hero Bear" courtesy of Vermont Teddy Bear, and a pair of tickets to a special fall performance at the Flynn Theatre.
The Live United Breakfast kicks off the United Way of Chittenden County's annual community fundraising campaign. The public is invited to attend and the cost is $15 per person.
Reservations for the awards and kick-off event can be made by calling 860-1677, ext. 822. Seating is limited and the reservations deadline is Aug. 31.
