Town theater camp starts Monday

Shelburne Players and Shelburne Parks and Recreation Department have once again joined forces to put on their annual Summer Musical Theatre Camp for children beginning Monday, Aug. 2 through Friday, Aug. 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A free performance at 3 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 6 on the Shelburne Town Center stage will feature the short production, "Macbeth, the Musical Comedy." Campers aged 10 to 13 will be rehearsing, painting the set, and making simple costumes for this lighthearted take on Shakespeare's famous play.

 

Camp Director Tim Maynes and Music Director Nate Venet are returning this year and bringing choreographer Julia DiFerdinando with them. Maynes has extensive experience directing youth theater. He is the current drama director at Frederick H. Tuttle (FHT) Middle School in South Burlington and has taught and directed with FlynnArts, Lyric Theater, Champlain Arts Theater Company, Stowe Theater Guild, and South Burlington recreation department. Venet is the music director for many area school's drama departments, including FHT Middle School, South Burlington High School, Champlain Valley Union High School, and Mount Mansfield Union High School. He has also done musical direction for Lyric Theater and Stowe Theater Guild.

 

DiFerdinando is a senior at the University of Vermont (UVM), where she majors in theater with a Spanish minor. Most recently she wrote and produced her original piece of theater entitled "Neurotic Female: A Brain Play." She has performed in UVM's productions of "Godspell" and "You Can't Take It With You." Her choreography experience includes "Grease," "Cinderella," and "Once on This Island."
