Students enrolled in Green across the Pacific's (GATP) summer environmental leadership program have really dug into Vermont. They have searched out rocks, salamanders, and animal tracks with field scientists, traveled to logging and industrial sites to view natural resource management techniques, and visited with legislators and Governor Douglas in Montpelier. At the University of Vermont's Bailey/Howe Library they have also buried themselves in research about current environmental challenges.

Based on its findings, the students are preparing interactive exhibits for display at Shelburne Farms on Friday, July 30. Eight or nine exhibits will focus on topics that include solid waste management and recycling, agricultural run-off and buffer zones, and how to bring alternative energy sources into the mainstream.

Exhibits will be open to the public from 10:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. at the Farm Barn at Shelburne Farms. With the exception of a lunch break, visitors will be able to meet with the exhibitors to discuss their projects. "I am really excited about the ideas that students have come up with to make their exhibits simple, informative, interesting, and interactive," said Peter Lynch, executive director of GATP.

GATP is a Shoreham, Vt., not-for-profit organization that seeks to improve cultural and environmental awareness and cooperation around the world. The organization conducts exchange and apprenticeship programs that function to establish an international community of learners.
