Flo Meiler: hotter than July

Shelburne resident Flo Meiler just completed a busy record-breaking month. Competing in the USATF Empire State Track & Field East Region Championships in Albany, N.Y. on July 4, Meiler won four gold medals. Meiler set a world record in the pole vault and competed in the javelin, shot put, and the steeplechase. Meiler set an American record in the steeplechase, which is a 2000-meter run with 24 barriers to jump - five of the jumps are into water.

 

Meiler also competed in the U.S.A. Masters Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif. at California State University from July 22-25. In four days Meiler not only competed in 11 events, she set three records, and won 11 medals. She won five gold meals in the pole vault (world record), 200m long hurdles (American record), hammer throw (American record), discus, and the 80m short hurdles. She won three silver medals in the long jump, high jump, and javelin and three bronze medals in the 100m dash, 200m dash and the triple jump.
