Locals shine in Lake Dunmore triathlon
Jessie Donovan of Shelburne had a record-setting female overall win at the Lake Dunmore Triathlon Sunday, Aug. 8. Her first place finish, fifteenth place overall, broke the female overall course record in the .9 mile swim, 28-mile bike, and 6.2-mile run with a finish time of 2:19:49. Not only did she break the previous course record of 2:23:07 set in 2009 she broke the bike and run records as well. Donovan cycled 28 miles in 1:11:27 and ran the 10K in 42.04.
Earlier this summer Donovan also broke the Vermont Sun Triathlon course record set in 2006. She completed the 600-yard swim, 14-mile bike, and 3.1-mile run on July 18 in just 1:07:42 breaking the old record of 1:08:35.
Shelburne residents Gary Snow and David Connery placed third and fifth overall in the Lake Dunmore Triathlon while Victor Nuovo and Tanya Benosky, both of Shelburne, placed 17 and 115 respectively. The relay team E+A Squared including Amy Riley and Eliza Pickard, both of Shelburne, and teammate Amy Sayre of Burlington finished sixth out of 14 relay teams.
Athletes Donovan, Snow, and Connery are now qualified to compete in the Best of the U.S. Triathlete Championship in Mission Viejo, Calif. this October.
