Jensa (Fradette) Bushey
People of Shelburne
In preparing for back to school season, Shelburne News continues to feature teachers who work and live in Town for its People of Shelburne column. SCS teacher Jensa Bushey fulfills both requirements; she has taught at SCS for 11 years and moved to Town three years ago. Here's what else we found out about Jensa.
Family: Jensa was born in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom on a small farm in East Hardwick. Her father is originally from Quebec and works for S.D. Ireland. Her mother works in the Newport school system. She has two sisters: one is a graphic designer in Denver, Colo., and the other sister teaches at Clark University in Massachusetts. Jensa met her now husband, Jason (a sixth generation Vermonter) while sailing at the Lake Champlain Yacht Club (so we already know one of their hobbies). They have two children: a son Henry, who is three and a half, and daughter Lila who is 18 months old. Jason owns his own building and property maintenance company, JRB Enterprises.
Education: Jensa attended grade school and high school in Hardwick and graduated from the University of Vermont in 1999 with a degree in elementary education. In what she describes as an unusual turn of events, "I was hired directly out of college to work at SCS," explaining that she never thought she would be hired so quickly and by her first pick of schools. She later went on to earn a master's degree in 2004 from Saint Michael's College.
Career: This fall will mark the start of Jensa's 11th year at SCS. Originally she was hired as a teacher on the Explorers Team (grades kindergarten, first, and second), and was on that team for four years. She then moved to the Aurora Team of third, fourth, and fifth graders, teaching with Sharon Wite. The Aurora Team was reinstated as Imagine, where she currently teaches third grade.
Hobbies: "I still sail," Jensa explained, but with two small children, she spends much more time with family pursuits. She also enjoys knitting, reading for pleasure, gardening, and cooking. She is committed to preparing local produce and meats.
Favorite food: "Green salads!"
First concert: Lynyrd Skynyrd at the Champlain Valley Fair
Pets: "We have a cat named ‘Faya'; she came with the first house we bought and she is still with us."
Bucket list: To travel abroad with her family and to learn to play the piano.
