New teachers at SCS this fall

With the start of the school year at Shelburne Community School, (SCS) there will be four new faces joining the teaching staff.

 

Cathy Sheerin, a native of Wilmington, Mass., will join the 6-8 Winton Team at SCS, teaching social studies. She came to Vermont to attend UVM, where she earned her undergraduate degree in secondary education and history. Sheerin was a student-teacher at SCS during the second semester of 2010 under Dick Carlson. She will be replacing Carlson, who retired this spring.

 

Maggie O'Toole is joining the Holden House Team, where she will be teaching math and social studies. She was involved with SCS for the past four years as Shelburne's Math Specialist. She completed the TAP accelerated teaching certification program offered through CCSU, and student taught under Ann Rainey last year. O'Toole earned her undergraduate degree from Boston College, where she majored in math.

 

Gretchen Miller has been hired to replace retiring teacher Cynthia Myers on the Alpha Team. She received her undergraduate degree in biology and geology from Brown University, and her master's degree from the University of Vermont. Prior to her hire at SCS, Miller was an instructor with the Outward Bound program in Maine, where she taught backpacking and canoeing. She will be the science specialist on the team, joining Meg O'Donnell and Leigh Petrucelli.

 

Megan Maynard, originally from Waterbury Center, will be teaching third grade on the Believe Team. She recently graduated from UVM with an undergraduate degree in education programs, where she was a member of the women's field hockey team. Maynard is currently completing graduate level studies in higher education and counseling towards her master's degree. She student taught at SCS with Deb Killkelley on the Believe Team.
