Moonrise gala supports education programs at Shelburne Museum
High rollers and cardsharks turned out in their finery last Thursday for a benefit at Shelburne Museum. "Moonrise Over Shelburne Museum," a play on the title of one of Ansel Adams' most famous works, "Moonrise, Hernandez, New Mexico," celebrated the museum's photography exhibit featuring legendary Western landscape photographer Ansel Adams' works. "Ansel Adams and Edward Burtynsky: Constructed Landscapes" is on exhibit through Oct. 24.
The night of gaming and good cheer drew about 120 guests who boarded the steamboat Ticonderoga where the paddlewheeler's saloon deck was outfitted as a casino in the spirit of the Old West. Guests tried their luck at craps, black jack, and roulette while enjoying hors d' oeuvres from Martha's Catering of Shoreham.
Gaming stopped only for the live auction that included a getaway to the Inn at Shelburne Farms, a reproduction of one of the museum's most famous decoys, and box seats to a Yankees baseball game.
The annual summer fundraiser benefits education programs at the museum.
