At the Statewide Primary Election on Tuesday, Aug. 24, 38 percent or 1,872 of the 4,909 registered voters in Shelburne cast their ballots. Of this number, 602 were absentee votes. At the last primary, held in September of 2008, only 9 percent or 505 votes were cast. In 2008, 176 of those votes were sent in as absentee ballots.

"This turnout was high for a primary," said Shelburne Town Clerk Colleen Haag. "It was a very good turnout."

As of Wednesday morning at press time, the unofficial primary election results for District 5-2 were that current representative Joan Lenes received 468 votes and incumbent Bob Lake received 157 votes. Kate Webb, representing District 5-1 and running unopposed received 739 votes.

The close governor race statewide between Doug Racine and Peter Shumlin was not a close margin in Shelburne. Racine received 466 votes and Shumlin received 296.
