Local website for history buffs
It's the 50th anniversary of the movie "Lawrence of Arabia" this year, and Sony is planning a re-release of the film on Blu-Ray; meanwhile events in the Middle East continue to stimulatediscussions about the real T.E. Lawrence - his motives, his actions, and his influence on the recent history of Iraq, Jordan, and Palestine. There's a website about the real T.E. produced by three companies right here in Essex, Shelburne, and Huntington. Keystone Productions, Huntington, collaborated with historian Lola van Wagenen
of Clio Visualizing History, Shelburne to produce "Lowell Thomas and Lawrence of Arabia: Making a Legend, Creating History," http://www.cliohistory.org/thomas-lawrence/. Technicaldesign was provided by LowellThomas, a highly respected American journalist, played a key role in creating the legend of "Lawrence of Arabia." T. E. Lawrence was a captain in the British army when he participated in the capture of the strategic port of Akaba during World War I. After the war, Lowell Thomas produced a groundbreaking multi-media show, which catapulted Lawrence to stardom. Clio's non-commercial, non-profit, educational website explores the history, the controversies, and the legacy of T.E. Lawrence - and there's even a section about the movie!
I'd like to invite history buffs, educators, movie fans, and anyone interested in Middle East events to visit the website.
Sincerely,
