On Saturday, Jan. 28, the wrestling Redhawks traveled to Colchester for the Bob Benoure Invitational tournament. The team came home with a sixth place finish among 17 teams from four states.

In all, six of CVU's 12 wrestlers finished in fifth place or better. Liam Bowley, wrestling in the 99 lb. division, earned his first career championship. Clark Poston, who maintained his undefeated season at 182 lb., got his arm raised as champion following a grueling overtime final match. "We're proud of both of our champions," said coach Gunnar Olson, "but we're proud of all our guys. There's always more to work on, and these guys never quit learning. I love that."

Adding to the team total were: Alex Legg in third place at 106; Patrick Shea, 4th at 145; Sam Fortin, 4th at 170; Brandon Tieso, 5th in the same 99 lb. division that teammate Bowley won. Alex Craige (113 lb.), Connor Gobeille (138 lb.), and Grant Poston (160 lb.), and Troy Bergeron (182 lb.) all contributed with victories on the day.

"Every win by every wrestler is a contribution to the team," reflected Fleming, "Sometimes those same wins are lifetime memories for the wrestler who earned 'em. For example, Troy Bergeron got his first career pin today. That's a keeper."

The Redhawks travel to Mount Mansfield Saturday, Feb. 4 for the Jason Lowell Memorial tournament.
