Registration is now open for Shelburne Parks and Recreation Youth Lacrosse. This season Shelburne will be offering teams at the following levels: boys and girls in grades 3/4, 5/6, and 7/8, coed grades 1-2, and coed kindergarten.

Me & My Guy Valentine Dance
Buy your tickets now! Friday, February 10 from 6:30-8:30 pm. This popular event is for girls in K - 5th grades and their special adult guy (dad, uncle, grandfather, etc.). The event costs $20 per couple and $5 per additional person. It will be held in the Shelburne Town Gym and is limited to 200 people. Dance the night away with music provided by Top Hat Entertainment. Each girl will receive a craft frame and photo. Light snacks will be provided. Don't miss out on this memorable occasion!

On Saturday, Jan. 28, the wrestling Redhawks traveled to Colchester for the Bob Benoure Invitational tournament. The team came home with a sixth place finish among 17 teams from four states.

Facing a 6-1 deficit at the start of the second period, the Redhawks were in trouble, but would not lie down. CVU would go on to score three more goals and shut out South Burlington for the remainder of the game. The Rebels took the CSB Cup, but not the Redhawks' pride.

The Champlain Valley Union High School girls basketball team looked to senior Lazrin Schenck, and her consecutive 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions, to pull away from Essex 46-34 in a metro division rivalry Tuesday night, Jan. 31, in Hinesburg. Schenck finished with 15 points, including two more 3-pointers, and CVU stayed undefeated. Emily Kinneston added 10 points, six rebounds, and three steals. Kaelyn Kohlash scored nine, Remi Donnelly scored eight, and Elana Bayer-Pacht had seven assists and seven rebounds for the 10-0 Redhawks. For more photos check us out on Facebook. Today the Shelburne baseball and softball fields don't look like much - patches of stale snow sit in the deserted outfield, base paths are bullet-proof frozen dirt, and a biting west wind is whistling through the batting cage frame.

The Shelburne Community School (SCS) boys basketball B team won the 21st annual CSSU Basketball Tournament at Charlotte Central School Thursday, Jan. 19. After defeating Williston by 11 points in the first game Tuesday afternoon, the team advanced to play Charlotte on Wednesday.

Redhawks basketball teams win again
Remi Donnelly scored 10 points, made 11 rebounds, and five assists to lead CVU over Burlington 52-33 in basketball action Tuesday night, Jan. 24 in Hinesburg. The 9-0 Redhawks, the only undefeated D-I team, also received productivity from Kaelyn Kohlasch, who had 13 points and four steals, and Elana Bayer-Pacht, who scored 11 points and had nine rebounds.

If the winter continues like this, it won't be long before lacrosse season. Once it begins, there will be a large number of girls playing the "the fastest game on two feet." The Shelburne girls lacrosse program continues to flourish.

Because there are too many people touched by cancer on a yearly basis, the Shelburne Community School (SCS) basketball program is on a mission to save lives and create a world with more birthdays. Toward that end they are participating in a season-long fundraiser and designated two home basketball games to benefit the Vermont Cancer Center.

Aiming to bounce back against South Burlington after a difficult stretch, Champlain Valley Union (CVU) was unable to gain traction on the ice, and the Redhawks were defeated in a blowout, 5-1.

So far, 2012 has been a very good year for CVU Wrestling. The Redhawks proved ungracious hosts, defeating both Essex and Mt. Abe on Wednesday, Jan. 4, on their home mat. The team is now 4-1 on the season.

Last week the Champlain Valley Union boys basketball team soared past BFA St. Albans 51-39 and South Burlington 58-40 before succumbing to Mount Mansfield 56-30 in a high school boys basketball game Friday, Dec. 30 in Hinesburg. On Friday John Keen led the 4-2 Redhawks with nine points.

The Catamount Trail Association (CTA) will host its 4th Annual Get Out and Backcountry Ski Festival on Sunday, Jan. 22 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Bolton Valley Resort. This unique and popular event is designed to give the beginner to intermediate backcountry skier the knowledge and skills necessary to comfortably explore winter wilderness areas on skis.

After the first three games of the season, the CVU girls hockey team is still looking for its first victory. After a 6-3 loss to Colchester, a 10-0 defeat at the hands of South Burlington, and a 4-3 loss to Rutland the girls look to rebound against Northfield on Wednesday, Dec. 21.

The Champlain Valley Union gymnastics team fared well at the Rebel Holiday Invitational at South Burlington Saturday, Dec. 17. Freshman Madison Tieso placed third in the vault while sophomore Megan Nick placed first in vault, floor, all around, and third in beam.

Last July Stephen Mount died unexpectedly while competing in a Racevermont.com sprint triathlon in Shelburne. More than the Vermont racing world - a whole community - lost a wonderful man that day: husband, father, friend, neighbor, writer, cook, software engineer, Patriots fan, and athlete.
