Another new endeavor for the artists from The Lodge at Shelburne Bay is a special art show and sale at Vintage Inspired in Burlington running through the end of February. Fittingly, the theme for the displayed work is romance, and features Lin Warren's art students' work in various mediums: jewelry, cards, art, flower arrangements and more. Vintage Inspired is an antique, arts, and craft shop at 180 Flynn Ave in Burlington. The shop is owned by Mary Aloi, who is the daughter of one of Warren's students, Pat Heinrich.
Artists in residence at The Lodge at Shelburne Bay

When the six women emerged from the theatre room at Shelburne Bay Living Center, it was with a spirit of anticipation: they would be trying a new art form. Their art instructor, Lin Warren, had arranged for the group of residents at the senior living facility to watch an instructional video on the art of Japanese line drawing. Following the film, the "artists in residence" filed into a well-stocked art room where they were joined by UVM art student volunteers to tackle this new medium and technique.

Penar performs on stage in Don Giovanni at McGill

Shelburne resident Geoffrey Penar will be performing in the opera Don Giovanni in Montreal on Jan.26 and 28. Penar is in a master's program in opera studies at McGill, having graduated from the Eastman School of Music with a bachelor of music degree in vocal performance last May.
Celtic Winter Gathering in Shelburne Jan. 14

The St. Andrews Highland Dancers (SAHDVT) will host the 3rd annual Celtic Winter Gathering (CWG) in Shelburne at the All Souls Interfaith Gathering on Saturday, Jan. 14. CWG organizers Heather Morris and Doug Webster have planned a Highland Dance competition starting at 10 a.m. through 3 p.m. Workshops in drumming and Cape Breton Step dance will occur during the day. There will be an evening performance starting at 7 p.m. Food, tea, coffee and music will be available throughout the day.
Creative talent abundant at CVU

Parents, friends, and students filled CVU's hallways and theater seats last Thursday evening when they celebrated the arts-all of the arts-with aplomb. The CVU performing arts department presented Celebrate the Arts Night with a lively and all-encompassing show.

Chittenden Solid Waste District's (CSWD) art competition, Creative Reuse Showcase, is now in its 16th year. And it is more than than just an art contest for high school students in Chittenden County. There's a twist: Chittenden County high school students create this art from items typically thought of as being at the end of their useful life.

Record crowd honors VAB award winners

Nearly 200 people were at the Burlington Hilton Saturday night, Nov. 19, to honor the winners of the annual Vermont Association of Broadcasters (VAB) awards. Four people were inducted into the VAB Hall of Fame, including news reporter Andy Potter, sportscaster George Commo, VPT CEO John King, and legendary crooner and broadcaster Rudy Vallee.
