Town theater camp starts Monday

Shelburne Players and Shelburne Parks and Recreation Department have once again joined forces to put on their annual Summer Musical Theatre Camp for children beginning Monday, Aug. 2 through Friday, Aug. 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The 37th season of the Vermont Mozart Festival opened on a beautiful July evening at Shelburne Farms on Sunday. Nothing epitomizes a picture-perfect Shelburne night as much as this: Lake Champlain in the background, the Inn at Shelburne Farms in the foreground, a picnic dinner at your side, and the Vermont Mozart Festival filling the air with classical music as the sun goes down.

Zachary Campbell, former Shelburne resident and CVU graduate, will play in Burlington's Discover Jazz Festival on Saturday, June 12 from 12-1:30 p.m. at the City Hall stage on Church Street. His band's name is Octopus Arnold's Sharktoberfest.
BBQ battle pits Dutch Mill against competitors to benefit Camp Ta-Kum-Ta

Things, or at least barbeque pits, will be heating up this Saturday when Shelburne's own Jamie Bissonnette of the Dutch Mill Restaurant competes for the title of "Best Darn BBQ." He will be up against pit bosses from Butler's Restaurant at The Essex Spa and Resort and Black Diamond Catering of Lake Elmore.

The Shelburne Players production of "Born Yesterday" opened this past weekend to enthusiastic audiences. When a character yells, "I'm couther than you!" and the entire audience bursts into laughter, you can count the play a success. When tycoon Harry Brock's former chorus-line girlfriend, Billy Dawn, lets loose with this indignant and flustered response, it seems only fitting when she finally decides to stand up to him.

An exhibit of the photography of Ansel Adams is among new exhibits opening at Shelburne Museum for the 2010 season. "Ansel Adams and Edward Burtynsky: Constructed Landscapes" features over 60 photographs by Ansel Adams, the legendary photographer of the American wilderness.

The Shelburne Players theatre group has been dazzling Shelburne with theatrical talent for the past eight years. Founders and former Shelburne residents Seth Koch and Anne Pardee had a passion for local theatre when they began the group. Although both of these members have moved on, a dedicated group of players have stayed and moved the theatre troupe forward with a variety of plays.

When Andrew Knox stood on stage at Higher Ground last week, it was a comfortable enough environment for the Shelburne resident. He was there as one of 50 comedians, all hoping to nail the title of "Comedy Battle Champion." It was a battle he has prepared for since he was in grade school, attending first Mater Christi School, then Rice High School.
