Town theater camp starts Monday

Shelburne Players and Shelburne Parks and Recreation Department have once again joined forces to put on their annual Summer Musical Theatre Camp for children beginning Monday, Aug. 2 through Friday, Aug. 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Cheesemakers Festival is sold-out success

The second annual Vermont Cheesemakers Festival held last Sunday at Shelburne Farms brought together over 1,500 cheese aficionados from throughout the Northeast. Hosted by the Vermont Institute for Artisan Cheese, Vermont Butter and Cheese Company, and the Vermont Cheese Council, the festival offered the 1,500 people in attendance an opportunity to sample and purchase over 100 types of cheese from more than 40 different cheesemakers.

The Lodge at Shelburne Bay is hosting its annual Country Fair from 3-5 p.m. Prior to the event, the residents will be selling rubber ducks for $5 apiece to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House. Proceeds of the sale will be a 50/50 raffle with the opportunity to win $500 and give back to a great cause.

Shelburne Farms partners with GMP on solar energy project

Under the terms of a 25-year cooperative agreement, Green Mountain Power (GMP) will install a 770 solar panel array at Shelburne Farms. The panels will occupy three quarters of an acre in a field that Shelburne Farms has recently designated as a solar orchard.

Allan Miller new co-principal at SCS

Allan Miller and his family moved from Alaska to Shelburne earlier this summer and Miller's first day as Shelburne Community School's (SCS) new middle school principal was Monday, July 12. Miller has a broad background that includes an extensive career in education and teaching in Alaska. He also holds a pilot's license (and almost had a career as an astronaut), and was a ski coach for the 1998 Winter Olympics in Japan.

Rayshunn Trevathan, 22, of Bridgeport and Bryan Jarquin, 21, of West Haven pleaded not guilty in Vermont District Court in Burlington Tuesday morning to charges stemming from incidents that occurred in Burlington and Shelburne early Friday morning, July 16.

The Shelburne Food Shelf is currently low on materials for its August drop offs. Coordinator Val Martel said that it has been a rough summer for folks and the demand for donations is on the rise. Vandalized cow causes heartbreak for artist
