Hannah Eva Rosenthal, 92, long-time cancer researcher, died peacefully at Wake Robin on Saturday, January 28, 2012. She is survived by her husband, Paul; her daughters Dorothy Bishop and husband Geoffrey, and Susan Yancy and husband Earl; her grandchildren, E Brad, Slade Brett, and Ashley Marie Yancy, and Orin Dana Bishop; and her great grandson Julien Joseph Tedesco. Arrangements are in the care of Steven C Gregory & Son. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Carolyn "Connie" Lemaire, 85, passed away in Wake Robin on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012. She was born in Elgin, Ill. on March 31, 1926, the daughter of Edward and Harriet (Rayner) Southard. Connie attended Elgin schools where her musical career was established as a classical bass player.

Wing Woon, loving husband, father and grandfather, was born on Dec. 15, 1926, in Oakland, Calif., and passed away peacefully on Jan. 24, 2012, in Burlington Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Walter passed away on Jan. 27, 2012, two days after a tragic accident. Son of Melvin Paul Knott and Lillian Abelson Knott, Walter was born in Tacoma, Wash., on June 7, 1949.

Ezekiel L. Kassel, 16, of Shelburne, died unexpectedly in a tragic accident on Friday, Jan. 27, 2012. Zeke was born on July 3, 1995, beloved son of Peter Kassel and Carol Irish, and brother of Sara, Sami and Eben. He was a junior at Champlain Valley Union High School, a high honors student who worked hard and enjoyed his classes and classmates.

Pauline P. O'Brien, 84, died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, in The Arbors in Shelburne. Born in Winooski on July 31, 1927, she was the daughter of the late George and Yvonne Perreault.

Kathryn Jane Wasson, 78, died peacefully at the Vermont Respite Home on Jan. 15, 2012. Kathy was born in Lansford, Pa. on Dec. 30, 1933 to the late Michael and Mary Phillipovich.

Jane H. Spears, age 87, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012. Born in Boston, Mass., she grew up in Westwood, N.J., and later moved to Wyckoff, N.J. After the passing of her beloved husband, George W., in 1988, Jane moved to Shelburne, where she spent many wonderful years volunteering at Shelburne Farms and Shelburne Museum.

Doris Evelyn Weake Cruikshank, who resided at Wake Robin in Shelburne, died Jan. 18, 2012, at age 101. She was born in Springfield, Mass., July 8, 1910, the daughter of Fred and May (Wilson) Weake.

Alice Melvina Thayer, 80, died suddenly of a heart attack on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012, in Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. She was born in Brattleboro on June 17, 1931, the daughter of Howard and Grace (Pratt) Thayer.

Janet M. Dubois, 79, passed away during the morning of Wednesday. Jan. 11, 2012. She was born on July 15, 1932, in Bristol, the daughter of Stanley and Lucille (Orvis) Smith. She attended Lincoln and Bristol schools, graduating from Bristol High School and Castleton State College.

Richard M. Ketchum, prominent American historian, writer, and editor, passed away on Jan. 12, 2012, at Wake Robin, the retirement community in Shelburne. He was 89 years old and died of natural causes. Ketchum was the co-founder of Blair and Ketchum's Country Journal Magazine, and the author of 17 books, including six titles focused on the American Revolution.

Alice McLaren Fisher Cook Bassett died at home with family on Dec. 28, 2011. She was 86 years old and had been a resident of Wake Robin Retirement Community in Shelburne since 1993.

Christina Smith, of Corinth NY, the former Christina Fiedler, went to her rest peacefully at the Green Mountain Nursing Home in Colchester on Dec. 30, 2011. She was born in Offenbach, Germany on Jan. 19, 1923.

Vera Dolores Abrami was born Jan. 31, 1918, in Brooklyn, N.Y. She was the youngest of eight children to Italian immigrants, Neil and Elvira Anzalone. From an early age, she developed a strong love of family and was devoted to her parents and siblings.

Harry J. McEntee died peacefully at home with family on Christmas morning 2011. Harry was born at home in the East Bronx of New York on Feb. 17, 1930. After graduating from high school, he served in the military during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1953.

Vivian Lee Woon, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, was born on June 20, 1932, in Boston, Mass., to Lau S. and Chester Lee. She passed away peacefully on Dec. 16, 2011, in the Vermont Respite House.

Glenn Mills Fay was born on Nov. 5, 1926, the second son of Harold Leon and Lillian Irene Mills Fay in Brandon.

Margaret Chadwick, formerly of Shelburne, passed away quietly Dec. 7, 2011, at her home in Wake Forest, N.C. Born in June 1924 in Burlington to Marjorie and Henry Bissonette, Margaret was married sixty-eight years to the late Lloyd Chadwick.

Roger G. Audette, 74, passed away peacefully at home early Saturday morning, Dec. 3, 2011, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Roger was born in Essex Junction on July 30, 1937, the ninth of 12 children to the late Arthur and Berthe (Campbell) Audette. He graduated from Essex Junction High School, Class of 1956.

Ruth B. Reynolds, 93, died on Nov. 25, 2011, in the Morrison Nursing Home in Whitefield, N.H. Ruth was born on Aug. 18, 1918, in Shelburne, to George A. Bishop and Lillian G. (Miles) Bishop.

James Thomas Daly, 68, of the Terraces, died on Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, surrounded by his loving family in Fletcher Allen Health Care, following a brief illness.

Ripley Quinby Jr., a longtime resident of Huntington and Shelburne, died in Agawam, Mass. on Nov. 8, 2011, after a brief illness. Born on Oct. 31, 1924, in East Orange, N.J., he was the son of Elsie and Ripley Quinby.

Lillian Husk Birkett, 88, of Quebec, Canada, died peacefully on Nov. 7, 2011. She was born on Jan. 18, 1923, in Elgin, Quebec, the daughter of Ray and Caroline (Black) Husk.

Marian Rice, 92, of Williamstown and formerly of Randolph, died Monday morning, Nov. 14, 2011, at her home. She was born on April 22, 1919, in Randolph, the daughter of Roy and Maryette "May" (Cone) Huse.

James Robinson Bresee, 77, of Shelburne, passed away after a brief illness, on Nov., 3, 2011. Jim was born on July 13, 1934, in New Rochelle, N.Y. He was raised at Pembroke in Orange, Va., where he attended The Woodbury Forest School.

Laurel Dawne Alpert died peacefully on Nov. 1, 2011. She was born on Dec. 17, 1927, the beloved only child of Ann and Forrest Roden, growing up in Grand Rapids, Mich. She was graduated from University of Michigan in 1950, majoring in English.

John R. Opel of Fort Myers, Fla, and formerly of Shelburne, died Nov. 3, 2011 at the age of 86, according to a release from IBM announcing his passing. He was born Jan. 5, 1925, in Kansas City, Mo, and received a bachelor's degree in English from Missouri's Westminster College and in 1949 earned a master's in business administration from the University of Chicago.

Robert William Ludwig, 68, passed away peacefully at home on Oct. 30, 2011. Robert was a paratrooper for the U.S. Army, Company G, 327th Infantry.

Jill Jackman Wisell of White River Junction, passed away on Aug. 17, 2011, at the VA Hospital in Boston, Mass., after an extended illness. Jill was born in Burlington, on April 9, 1951, the daughter of Robert and Beryl (Richards) Jackman.

C. Christina Nelson, 72, died Oct. 28, 2011, in the Mt. Ascutney Hospital in Windsor. She was born in Hanover, N.H. on April 11, 1939, the daughter of Maurice L. and Sirkka (Kiovuluhta) Bugbee. She attended school in Randolph and graduated in 1957 from Braintree-Randolph High School.

Otto H. Meier died unexpectedly on Nov. 1, 2011. Otto was born in New York City on Sept. 20, 1933, the son of Otto and Hertha Meier.

James Edward MacIsaac of Shelburne passed away unexpectedly on Nov. 1, 2011, doing what he loved most at his sugarbush in Starksboro.

Peggy Mavis Gilbert (Ward) Bouchard died Sept. 24, 2011, with her family by her side at Fletcher Allen Hospital after a brief illness. She was a gracious, caring, mother and grandmother - one of a kind - and will be sorely missed.

Joseph Edward Corbett Sr., 90, of Burlington - our patriarch, hero, mentor, and stalwart friend, passed away peacefully in the company of his loving family at the Arbors in Shelburne on Friday afternoon, Oct. 28, 2011.

John Urius Groff, 42, died on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011, in Fletcher Allen Health Care of Burlington, due to injuries resulting from a tragic accident that occurred on Oct. 21, 2011.

Richard (Dick) C. Thayer, 81, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, died peacefully in Birchwood Terrace Healthcare, on Monday, Oct. 17, 2011. Dick was born June 8, 1930, in Holden, Mass.

Helene Barrows Palmer passed quietly and naturally at the age of 94. Affectionately known by her family as "Nonny," she will be remembered for living a rich and full life - loving, helping, and supporting others. Our Palmer family matriarch lived an active life each day with the "Power of Positive Thinking" attitude, setting an example for all to follow.

Dr. David Meyer, 62, loving father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Oct. 10, 2011. He was born on Dec.30, 1948, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of Leonard and Pearl (Marshak) Meyer.

Alexander S. Lewis died peacefully surrounded by his family on Oct. 4, 2011, in Porter Hospital, Middlebury. Alex was born in Framingham, Mass., Jan. 26, 1926, to the late Samuel and Catherine Lewis.
